Washing and drying before storage

Plan the last clean around drying, inspection and the vehicle handbook.

Allow time to inspect and dry the car before putting it away. A clean appearance is not proof that hidden sections are ready for storage.

A useful sequence

  1. Record existing marks and areas needing attention.
  2. Use methods approved for the vehicle's finishes.
  3. Inspect accessible seams, trim and wheels after cleaning.
  4. Follow the handbook's post-wash instructions.
  5. Check vehicle and cover preparation requirements before storage.

Ford includes removing dirt from the body and wheel-housing areas in storage guidance. That is not permission to force water into cavities or electrical components; follow the care instructions for your model.

Include wheels and tyres

Michelin advises cleaning and drying wheels and tyres before separate storage. If a wheel set is removed, label and store it according to the tyre maker's instructions. A chemical intended for another component is not automatically suitable for rubber.

Record what you find

Photograph a lifting coating, damaged seal or corrosion exposed by washing. Seek advice before covering it with treatment. Do not let cleaning become an unplanned repair attempt.

Complete the winter storage checklist and review cover preparation before finishing.
